How to Call Vietnam

When calling Vietnam from the United States, you need to dial several additional numbers than the standard area code and telephone numbers. This allows you to call outside of the county and reach Vietnam, located halfway around the world in the southeastern corner of Asia. You may, however, want to talk with your landline or cell phone provider to see what the international calling rates are for Vietnam.

  Determine what time it is in Vietnam before you call. It will be 15 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time, and 12 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time in the United States.

  Dial 011, the international access code.

  Dial 84, the country code for Vietnam.

  Dial the city code for the city you wish to call. Some codes for major cities include 8 for Ho Chi Minh and 4 for Hanoi.

  Dial the remaining digits.

• Dial in "011." This is the official exit code for the United States and it must be dialed when calling all foreign countries (except Canada).

• Type in "84." This is Vietnam's country code.

• Dial in the area code of the city you are calling. The area code ranges from one to three different numbers.

• Press the last five to seven digits in the phone number. Once complete, your call is connected to the individual in Vietnam.

If you follow these steps but still can't connect, dial 00 and ask the international operator to help you place the call.

 

It can be very expensive to call long-distance during business hours, so try to make your phone calls in the evenings and on weekends.
